There are also PE/XPE material versions available on the market with segmented ribbed patterns, lower density, and "bordered" edges. When choosing, please consider the following:

• EVA foam provides significantly better grip and is less slippery than PE or XPE alternatives.
• The rice grain pattern ensures higher slip resistance compared to segmented rib patterns. The latter has lower production costs, making it common in cheaper products.
• Higher density = better grip and longer lifespan. Higher density also provides greater resistance to mechanical damage, enhanced comfort, better shock absorption, and joint protection.
• If you choose a bordered version, the borders must be cut off by the customer afterwards; otherwise, multiple puzzle mats cannot be placed next to each other with the borders attached.

The puzzle tatami "teeth" guarantee that the mat stays together during intense training, unlike traditional tatamis that slip apart without support. Number of "teeth": 10 on one side, 9 on the other side (symmetrically repeated on the other two sides).
